Evaluation of laser in situ keratomileusis for high myopia at five years after surgery

Abstract

Objective To evaluate the effect and safety of laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK)in treating high myopia at 5 years after surgery.Methods LASIK was performed on 136 eyes of 80 patients who were followed up for five years.The patients were divided into two groups according to their degree of preoperative myopia according to diopter (group A:-6.00D～-8.00D,93 eyes;group B:＞-8.00D,43 eyes).Results Among 80 patients with high myopia,uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) at five years was 0.5 or better in 96％,1.0 or better in 68％.Compared with preoperative corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA),the percentage of CDVA remaining and gained one line was 50％.The percentage of UDVA ≥0.5 in group A and B was 98.9％,88.4％,respectively,there was significant different between them (P ＜0.05).The percentage of UDVA ≥ 1.0 in group A and B was 73.1％,55.8％,respectively,there was significant different between them (P ＜0.05).The mean spherical equivalent was (-0.31±0.57)D with 70.59％ ±0.50D,83.09％ ±1.00D and 97.79％ ±2.00D of intended refraction.The percentage of regressive degree ≥1.0D in group A and B was 11.8％,21.9％,respectively,there was significant different between them (P ＜0.05).The mean refractive astigmatism was (-0.07±0.22)D.The complications were few.Conclusions LASIK for high myopia is an effective and safe procedure with vision acuity and refractive power stable in the long-term.
