Abstract

The paper delineates the effects of reinforcement types and their amalgamation on static and dynamic properties of hybrid composite laminates. Hybrid composites are prepared by E-Glass, Twaron fabrics and polycarbonate sheets reinforced in epoxy matrix. Dynamic impact resistance and damage mechanisms are studied using load-deformation-energy-time graphs. The addition of polycarbonate sheet has increased strain to failure and toughness of hybrid composites than its pure counterparts. The tensile, interlaminar, flexural properties of hybrid composites provided a compatible performance and can be incorporated for structural and defense applications. Hybridization has provided a reduction in density about 10–14% with substantial enhancement of impact damage tolerance.
