The ideal scaffold for engineering and regeneration of tissues would be a replica of the extracellular matrix (ECM), which is unique for each tissue type
For improving cell attachment to biomaterials, the RGD (Arg-Gly-Asp) peptide motif is commonly used. This peptide is found in fibronectin, vitronectin, bone sialoprotein (BSP), and collagen VI and is recognized by the αvβ3 integrin (Arnaout et al, 2005)
