Abstract

For evaluating the first swing stability (FSS) of power systems in the presence of doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) wind farms, a simple and unified model of DFIG is proposed in this paper. In addition the proposed DFIG model is carefully incorporated into the power system for fast FSS evaluation. The evaluation algorithm is also presented in details in the paper. Without losing generality, DFIG is represented by an equivalent circuit according to various rated active and reactive powers output. The limitation of rotor current was considered during the evaluation process as well. The effectiveness of the proposed DFIG model and the evaluation algorithm are tested on modified IEEE 14-bus test system. The proposed DFIG model and the evaluation algorithm are very general and can be easily applied to a large power system.
