Abstract

Abstract This paper describes the application of in-line fiber etalon (ILFE) fiber optic sensors to the measurement of strains generated in an aircraft system. Single channel phase tracker and active homodyne demodulation schemes were tested simultaneously, but with different ILFE sensors. Cantilever beam and full scale strain measurements compared well with resistance strain gage measurements. This program gave insight to further applications of advanced optical fiber sensors to the harsh environments typical of in-service aircraft systems.
