Abstract

India is one of the few developing countries which has consciously adopted several public policy options to guide its actions for social development However, because of the nature of Indian industry and society, these options have only been about 36% effective. Some suitable policies are suggested to improve the indigenous base for S&T, industry and social development: the restructuring of agriculture; elimination of absolute poverty, eradication of illiteracy; reduction of unemployment; industrial development; and strengthening indigenous S&T.
