Abstract

Proton therapy has proven effective in the treatment of prostate cancer. Unlike conventional X-rays, protons are highly sensitive to changes in tissue density along their path, which can cause a shift in the particle range and Bragg peak. Changes in patient positioning during treatment may significantly alter dose to structures of interest (SOI). While dose deviations with systematic rotational set-up errors (RSE) have been studied with IMRT prostate plans, to our knowledge this question has not yet been evaluated in the context of proton therapy prostate plans.
