Abstract

Objective To evaluate the value of procalciton in early diagnosis and differential diagnosis of lower respiratory tract infectious diseases. Methods Based on X-ray chest film, signs, symptoms, and etiological examine,32 patients suffered from atypical lower respiratory tract infection were set as control group, including 19 patients with bacterial infection and 13 patients with non-bacterial infection,moreover,30 patients suffered from typical lower respiratory tract infection were set as experimental group, including 16 patients with bacterial infection and 14 patients with non-bacterial infection.Serum procalciton was tested by semiquantitative solid phase immune method, and serum C-reaction protein was tested by immune transmission turbidimetry method. The procalciton and C-reaction protein were compared between two groups, and between the patients with bacterial infection and with non-bacterial infection, and then the statistic analysis was performed. Results The procalciton and C-reaction protein of the patients with bacterial infection showed statistic differences between two groups, moreover, procalciton and C-reaction protein of the patients with non-bacterial infection showed no statistic difference.Compared to control group, the procalciton in experiment group showed statistic difference, but the C-reaction protein showed no statistic difference. Conclusions Compared to C-reaction protein, procalciton shows higher sensitivity and better specificity.Serum procalciton shows significant value in early diagnosis in lower respiratory tract infection and differential diagnosis in bacterial infection, moreover,it is better than C-reaction protein to perform early diagnosis in lower respiratory tract infection diseases.
