Abstract

Gage Repeatability & Reproducibility (Gage R&R) is a useful technique in industry that is used to determine the adequacy of a measuring system. Generally, Gage R&R involves multiple operators taking multiple measurements of a particular feature. In this paper, Gage R&R of CMM is undertaken wherein the operator is replaced by three different factors which can affect the measurement like Location, Probe Diameter and Touch Speed. Internal Diameter, Overall Length, Parallelism and External Diameter of ten components were measured during the R & R study. The study revealed that percentage contribution of variance component due to Reproducibility was less than 2.18% thereby assuring that the change in location, probe radius or touch speed would not have a significant effect on the measurement of the features mentioned. This analysis would help industry to determine if measurement due to any of the above three factors is reliable.
