Abstract

This paper conducts an investigation to find out the best coil design required for the transmitter and receiver side of a wireless power transmission system for low power systems and is done by conducting experiments to evaluate the performance of various coil configurations and coil shapes. The common coil configurations like single strand, flat wire and solenoid were experimented. Similarly the common coil shapes like circular, rectangular and toroid, were also put to study. The range test for each case was done and the values of current and voltage under each distance were observed. Then power transfer efficiency was calculated to analyze the performance of the coil. The single strand circular coil shape came out with higher efficiency than rest of them.
