Abstract

Character education is expected to create students’ good character in terms of attitudes/behavior, ways, and qualities to differentiate people from one another. Character education integrated with mathematics learning is contained in a learning device loaded with character values on each subject of mathematics to become the teachers’ guide when carrying out mathematics learning. This article is a review of several evaluation studies related to character education programs in schools conducted at Indonesian schools in 2014, 2017, 2019, and 2020, each of which is publishing in the Mathematics Education Research Journal, Education Management Journal, Prima Edukasia Journal, Wilangan Journal and Proceeding International Conference on Islamic Education (ICIED). This study aims to evaluate the implementation of character education programs in mathematics learning in schools and determine what obstacles the school faces when implementing character education. The review showed that the implementation of character education programs in mathematics learning at schools categorized as sufficient. One of the obstacles is the lack of teachers’ knowledge about implementing character education in mathematics learning. Other obstacles are a lack of conventional learning methods that do not facilitate students to be more active; attitude assessment is still not well documented; it has limited infrastructure in supporting character education, and lacks parents’ support in conducting character education at home.
