Abstract

(Abstracted from JAMA Network Open 2021;4(11):e2132271) Despite the robust association between added sugars, including those from sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) and obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and poor dental health, more than 50% of adults and 65% of children exceed recommended intake. Reducing consumption of added sugars is a key goal for Healthy People 2030, and taxation of SSBs is increasingly being used to accomplish this.
