Abstract
Reclaimed building materials (RBM) for recycling are examined on hot mix asphalt (HMA) permanent deformation performance. Four types of aggregates used for mixtures are: (a) 100% river crush stone (CS); (b) 100% RBM; (c) 50% coarse and fine RBM plus 50% coarse and fine CS (50% RBM plus 50% CS); and (d) coarse RBM plus fine CS (C-RBM plus F-CS). Two types of asphalt cement AC-10 and AC-20 are used as a binder for mixtures. The test results indicate 50% RBM plus 50% CS mixed with AC-10 or AC-20 has the lowest wheel path deformation at 25 °C, but the highest permanent deformation at 60 °C. Concerning the permanent deformation, 100% RBM and C-RBM plus F-CS mixed are better than 100% river crush stone mixtures. The analysis of variance of permanent deformation shows that the types of aggregate have a significant effect, no matter what test temperatures and binders are used. The asphalt cement either AC-10 or AC-20 does not significantly affect the permanent deformation performance.
