Abstract
Industrial vacuum cleaners which are marketed as suitable foil the collection of asbestos waste were tested and evaluated. The test criteria was the amount of asbestos fiber concentration in the exhausted air and was determined using the NIOSH approved method of counting asbestos fibers. All of the units which were tested performed satisfactorily when compared to the present threshold limit value with regard to emitted fibers. Specifications of each vacuum cleaner that was tested are included as a consumer aid in the selection of a proper cleaner for a given application. This paper provides only qualitative results.
