Abstract

The deep cement mixing method, as a means for soft-ground improvement, was applied to achieve a short construction period for reinforced subgrade for railways (RSR). The RSR was modeled using the finite-element method for the parametric study of three kinds of its height. The parameters for the numerical analysis were the improvement ratio, and the width and depth of the soft ground. On the basis of the analysis results, in the case of 10-m-high RSR, we assured residual and differential settlements. Furthermore, the horizontal displacements were under the control limits by satisfying both the condition of the total improvement of soft layers by the range of RSR wall foundation and the improvement ratio of 54%.
