Abstract

For nearly 15 years, the link between a positive history of head injury and an increased risk for Alzheimer disease has been recognized (Heyman, Wilkinson, et al., 1984; Mortimer and French Huton, 1985). More recently, the Apolipoprotein E gene (APOE) has been identified as a major genetic factor predisposing one to Alzheimer’s disease. It is this association between head injury and Alzheimer disease that initiated the hypothesis that one’s genetic code, specficially, one’s APOE allele, may influence the rehabilitation process following TBI.KeywordsTraumatic Brain InjuryHead InjuryAlzheimer DiseaseGlasgow Outcome ScaleAPOE GenotypeThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
