Abstract

Worldwide use of Medicinal plants is increasing nowadays due to its no or minimal side effects. Hemigraphis colorata is a medicinal plant coming under Acanthaceae family. This present study was to evaluate the antibacterial activity and antioxidant activity of Hemigraphis colorata by well diffusion method and DPPH scavenging assay. The ethanol leaf extract is tested for antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis by comparing with Chloramphenicol and the free radical scavenging activity also observed for different concentration by taking Ascorbic acid as a standard. Both antioxidant activity and antibacterial activity increase with increase in plant extract concentration. Key words: Antibacterial, Antioxidant, DPPH, Hemigraphis colorata, Well diffusion method
