Abstract

Aluminum foils have been used for covering UHV components after cleaning and for covering ports in vacuum systems. Traditionally, industrial grade/household variety foils have been used. We have studied different grades for their surface impurities. Similarly, LoctiteR (a polymer of methacrylate) has been used in sealing minute leaks in accelerator rf cavities/separators. Ferrites are being proposed for use in superconducting rf cavities as an absorber. Special surface treatments to get mirror polish on stainless steel (SS) is often used. We have evaluated these materials for their surface topography and composition. Also vacuum/baking treatments have been investigated using a residual gas analyzer (RGA). Summary of our data and a brief analysis is presented.
