Abstract

Changes in nucleotide pattern is one of the most prominent changes observed in the erythrocytes of patients with renal failure,1,2 but the mechanism of this phenomenon is unclear. To evaluate possible role of increased precursor availability as potential cause of increased erythrocyte ATP and GTP concentrations in renal failure we analysed adenine and adenosine concentration in plasma. Since acid extraction before HPLC analysis may lead to a breakdown of unstable metabolites with release of adenine we applied ultrafiltra-tion technique.
