Abstract

Barbs were created in a USP size 0 polydioxanone suture (PDS). The suture is barbed so that it may be pulled through tissue in one direction but resists retrograde movement. This allows for incision closure without the need for anchoring knots. The purpose of this study was to determine if closure of the dermal and subcutaneous tissue layers of a Pfannenstiel incision in cesarean section surgery with 0 barbed PDS suture results in equivalent cosmesis when compared with closure using 3-0 PDS-II suture.
