Abstract

ABSTRACT HORIZONTAL and vertical Savonius systems were modeled and wind tunnel tests were conducted. Roof pitch, wind incidence angle, and rotor positioning were varied. The effect of system orientation and wind direction on power output was studied. Optimally oriented, the horizontal Savonius system demonstrated up to a 99% increase in overall power output over the vertical Savonius system.
