Abstract
A family-centered maternity care program and a traditional maternity care program are compared; the relative effectiveness of the two types of nursing care in reducing physical and psychologic problems in the family and newborn during the first two months after childbirth is investigated. In addition, an attempt is made to clarify areas in which parents feel further help is necessary. Part I is concerned primarily with the methodology of the project; Part II, with the assimilation and application of newly acquired information. Part II will be presented in the next issue of JOGN Nursing.
