Abstract

Selection of materials for production of oil from the Brae Field, operated by Marathon Oil Company, in the North Sea required extensive testing of highly alloyed steels and nickel base alloys. Elevated bottomhole temperatures in combination with a high partial pressure of carbon dioxide and the presence of hydrogen sulfide ruled out the use of carbon or low alloy steels for the production tubing.
