Abstract

1. A mathematical model of heat and mass transfer has been constructed; it has been programmed for computer calculations of parameters of sprinkler thawing. The program can be used to determine efficient parameters of mining operations. 2. The study has established the existence of an optimal sprinkling rate which ensures for given hydrothermophysical conditions on the test ground a maximum thaw rock preparation rate. 3. Two methods of choice of the parameters L and H0 are recommended for optimal ground irrigation: a) if maximum thaw depth is to be achieved during the summer season, small L (−20 m) and H0 (∼1 m) are recommended; b) if there is a limitation on mining operation costs in the digging of drain ditches, large L (−50 m) and small H0 (1 m) should be used.
