Abstract

Deep cement-soil mixing piles to reinforce soft soil have many advantages—simple construction, no vibration and pollution in the construction process, and no adverse impact on the surrounding environment. Therefore, since the 1980s, this technology has been increasingly used in China and has a large number of applications in soft-soil reinforcement for highways, railways, airports, deep excavation engineering, and foundation treatment of construction sites for multistory buildings. However, due to complex geological conditions of the bottom layer, groundwater presence and flow, poor workmanship, and substandard economic specifications, problems (e.g., erratic consistency in the length of the piles) may occur that would seriously affect the stability of piles and cause them to be incapable of standard bearing capacity.
