Evaluating the accuracy of predicting discharge date post hip surgery using pre-morbid function

Abstract

Purpose: Prior to this service evaluation, senior physiotherapists completed a service development which identified the New Mobility Score (NMS) as an efficient outcome measure to predict realistic and evidence-based discharge dates on the day of hip surgery, based upon pre-morbid function. This project aims to evaluate the reliability of setting estimated discharge dates (EDD) using the NMS, by objectively measuring patients’ function on their EDD using the Barthel Index (BI).
