Abstract

Usually bead-on-plate welding is performed to standardize process parameters before cladding. Selection of appropriate process parameters plays a vital role for achieving good weld bead geometry. In this experimental investigation, Metal Active Gas Welding is used with 316 austenitic stainless steel wire electrode. An experimental design for Response Surface Methodology named, Box-Behnken (Three Variable) design is adopted for determining the experimental runs. Heat input of 0.6kJ/mm and higher than this can be used to obtain desirable bead-on-plate welding that may also be recommended for weld cladding for this substrate-filler material combine.
