Abstract

The paper presents a non-deterministic approach, to the study of the stray current effects generated by DC railway or tramway lines on a nearby network of buried pipelines. This paper represents a further development of the author’s previous work based a Monte Carlo algorithm; in the present paper, the novelties are represented by three aspects: inclusion of the per unit length rails conductance as further random variable, description of the soil by means of a two-layer model instead of the homogeneous one and generalisation of the pipeline layout to from the case of a single point-to-point broken line to the case of a complex branched network.
