Abstract

Recently, a number of researches have been done on Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET). The network form temporarily without any infrastructure or centralized administration. To give quality of service (QoS) support to MANET, different routing protocols are proposed. Route routing and selection of protocol is the first stage of different applications of MANET. Before selection of protocol, there is a need to compare the protocol. This paper evaluates the performance evaluation of reactive (Dynamic Source Routing) and hybrid (zone routing protocol) routing protocol. Simulation is done using different quality of service metrics like Packet Delivery Ratio, End-to-End Delay, Throughput, Packet Loss, Average Energy Consumption, etc. Parameters use discrete event simulator NS 2 for measuring the performance of protocol. By observing the performance of protocol, this paper concludes that hybrid routing protocols performance is better in terms of delay, packet drop rate, energy, etc. Remaining parameters are better for DSR protocol as packet delivery ratio, throughput, etc.
