Abstract

Cancer is one of the main reasons for death and has been increasing steadily day by day. Several medications are available for the treatments of cancer but no medications are proven successful. Toxicity of medication is one of the major issues in chemotherapy. However plant and plant derivative drugs have proved efficient and safe in the treatment of cancer. Nowadays the majorities of research work going on cancer-targeted drugs are derived from plant and plant natural products. The different natural products and their analogues have been known as potent anticancer agents. This review emphasizes the recent plant species known with anticancer properties either invitro or invivo. It takes some period of time and expenditures for the invention of plant-based drugs. Presently several high throughput technologies are developed for labor-intensive approaches. Bioinformatics and bioscience perform a vital role in the generation of high-throughput data. These are commonly used in drug discovery and designing. Currentlybioinformatics and computational approaches are rarely used in plant-based research and technologies. In this review, the above approaches have been discussed for research in medicinalplants. By using thesemethodologies in medicinal plants based research, it may result in developing cost-effective and simpler methods for designing plant-based drugs.
