Abstract

The Division of Research and Guidance of the Offices of the Los Ange les County Superintendent of Schools includes as one of its functions that of assisting county school districts in the interpretation of their test and measurement findings. For some years these interpretations have stressed achievement in relation to ability to achieve, emphasizing the importance of curricular enrichments for the bright child and the removal of grade achieve ment pressures from the too dull child. The purpose of this study is to determine whether or not the use of the expectancy analysis form, distributed to the teachers in the various school systems, has resulted in a more satisfactory adjustment of the pupil's achieve ment in relation to his ability. The study represents an effort to determine whether or not teachers in general understand the concept of expectancy and utilize such data in their classroom work.
