Abstract
Organizations in the 21st century need self-efficient, independent, self-reliant, self-confident creative staffs. The present study aims to determine the efficacy of nursing managers in the hospitals of Qazvin University of Medical Sciences using performance indicators of patient and staff satisfaction. This cross-sectional descriptive-analytical study was conducted in a six-month period between April and September 2011. Three questionnaires were used for data collection: 1. Manager efficacy, 2. Staff satisfaction and 3. Patient satisfaction. The validity and reliability of the questionnaires were evaluated and confirmed by nursing managers. All of the nursing managers, staffs and patients were randomly selected and completed the related questionnaires. The data was analyzed using t-test, ANOVA and Spearman correlation. The mean score of the nurses' efficacy was 33.71%. About 89.4% of the patients were satisfied with the provided healthcare. The mean score of the staffs' satisfaction was 68.47% showing the staffs' partial satisfaction with the managers of the wards. There is a statistically significant correlation between the managers efficacy and the staffs’ satisfaction so that whenever the score of the self-efficacy test in the managers is higher, that of the staffs’ satisfaction is higher as well (P=0.014).
