Abstract

A community organization evaluation scale was developed as part of a study of 176 low-income community organization projects. Using factor analysis procedures, the author extracted seven empirically derived dimensions of successful community organization projects: (1) developing indigenous leadership, (2) developing fundraising capabilities, (3) developing group empowerment, (4) developing leadership financial responsibility, (5) developing community support, (6) developing coalition formation, and (7) developing organizational structure. Implications for social work research and practice in the area of community organization are discussed.
