Abstract

Large-scale deployment of Electric Vehicles (EVs) has adverse effects on the distribution system operations. Inappropriate installation of EV Charging Station (EVCS) degrades the distribution system's power quality affecting the smooth functioning. This paper proposes a novel strategy for properly allocating EVCS in a distribution system analysing power quality. The allocation of EVCS in the IEEE-33 bus radial distribution system is carried out by formulating six test scenarios. Different test scenarios are proposed to perceive the effect of slow/moderate and fast chargers in the test system highlighting the power quality. All the test results validate the potency of the Reliability Index strategy for placing EVCS both slow and fast chargers in a distribution system. The efficacy of the strategy is substantiated for a real-time distribution system in Kerala, India.
