Abstract

Background and Aims: Extracellular vesicles (EVs) have been shown to play a role in atherosclerotic plaque progression. However, the mechanisms of this process are poorly understood, partially, due to the absence of ex vivo models that faithfully reproduce the plaque’s structure and microenvironment. Using this model, we studied the distribution of cytokines between EV-associated and soluble fractions in the culture medium of our model of human atherosclerotic plaque culture that allows the investigation of intracellular interactions.
