Abstract

Abstract The geoid configuration, with its relief of several tens of metres, cannot have remained stable back in time. There are many known variables that must have affected the geoid. Geological data suggest that it has changed even during short periods. With geoid changes, eustasy (in the old concept) is not globally valid. The ocean level is determined by glacial eustasy, tectono-eustasy, and geoidal eustasy. Geoid changes are related to fundamental geophysical and astronomical factors.
