Abstract

In ears with secretory otitis media, the Eustachian tube function was determined by the aspiration method. It was shown that tubal function was poor in all ears and there was no significant change in tubal function in most cases during a follow-up period of three months. Despite the poor tubal function, all ears healed after removal of the initially inserted polyethylene tube. A probable explanation is that these ears basically have poor tubal function and may be looked upon as a group of high-risk cases.
