Abstract

Upper GI malignancies can be staged with radial or linear EUS. Electronic 270-degree transverse array radial EUS (R-EUS) provides high quality cross-sectional images, but cannot guide Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA). Linear EUS (L-EUS) provides longitudinal images of malignancies and the ability to guide FNA of abnormal lymph nodes or masses. Methods: In a prospective, randomized trial, patients with a documented upper GI (UGI) malignancy underwent L-EUS immediately followed by R-EUS (63%) or R-EUS immediately followed by L-EUS (37%).
