Abstract
A 51-year-old man underwent laser vocal cord surgery for lysis of synechiae secondary to previous surgery for vocal cord cancer. After 1 month of postoperative healing, the patient developed fever. A chest CT scan demonstrated a 6 × 5-cm mediastinal abscess adjacent to the esophagus and the upper right paratracheal region (Fig. 1A). There was no clinical improvement with antibiotic therapy, and an EUS-guided transesophageal drainage of the lesion was considered. A linear echoendoscope was situated in the upper thoracic esophagus, and a well-defined mediastinal collection with isoechoic pattern was identified (Fig. 1B).
