Abstract
Transluminal procedures have literally revolutionized endoscopy in general and EUS specifically. One of the most valuable innovations in the past decade is the development and widespread implementation of the so-called EDGE (EUS-directed transgastric ERCP) procedure, which allows ERCP to be performed via a transluminal route in patients who have previously undergone a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. Before EDGE, patients in this situation had to undergo either a laparoscopy-assisted ERCP (which was time and resource consuming but effective) or a balloon-assisted enteroscopy to reach the papilla (which was also time consuming and more prone to failure).
