Abstract

The European Standards Organisation (CEN) has planned to develop a complete set of harmonized European building standards. This set includes standards for composite steel and concrete buildings and bridges. The Eurocodes, being the design standards, form part of this total system of European standards, together with standards for fabrication and erection and product standards. After a period of experimental use of the ENV (European Pre Standard)-versions of the Eurocodes, a start has been made with the conversion to EN's (European Standards). At the time of the conference, the 2nd draft EN version of Part 1.1 of Eurocode 4: Composite Structures - General Rules and Rules for Buildings will have been completed and presented to CEN/TC250/SC4. An overview will be given of the conversion procedure, the structure of the Eurocode package and the planning for completion. Technical modifications in Part 1.1 of Eurocode 4 will be discussed in detail.
