Abstract
I was pleased to see your article (May pp45–46) about the newly launched European Research Council (ERC). The European Commission is obviously keen that this new body reaches out to the European scientific community as widely as possible so that the best people apply for its grants. However, I must correct two misunderstandings about the European Union's Framework programmes.
