Abstract

This paper deals with the question of the future effects of the single market on the German system of water management. In some areas of the European and German water protection policy there are positive mutual influences. On the other hand there are a number of problems regarding the implementation of European directives into national law that might have a strong influence on the supply of drinking water in the FRG. It is very unlikely that the single market will have a strong influence in this field. Independent of the single market a change of instruments of environmental protection can be expected. In this field the FRG might play an important role.
