Abstract

Addressing the challenges of cybercrime remains a key challenge for societies worldwide. The threat of cybercrime is not just a concern for information societies which are intensely dependent on the availability of information technology. In 2005, the number of internet users based in developing countries surpassed the number in industrial nations. In addition to the member states, the European Union and the Council of Europe have undertaken various initiatives to develop an adequate legal framework to address the challenges. This article provides an overview of the different initiatives to address the relevant challenges.
