Abstract

In September 2021, a team of Russian scientists and designers held the 15th European Conference on Applied Superconductivity EUCAS-2021. For scientists all over the world working in the field of applied superconductivity and low temperature physics, this event is akin to European or world open championships in sports. More than 600 applications for participation in the conference were submitted. In the submitted presentation materials, the scope of matters proposed for discussion included various important topics, such as the development of advanced thermonuclear reactors with superconducting magnetic systems, including compact tokamaks; news of superconducting accelerators (both operating and under construction); superconducting electric power engineering (wind turbines, engines for ships and aircraft, fault current limiters, DC and AC power lines, etc.); advances in superconducting electronics, and modern superconducting materials. In view of COVID limitations, the conference was held in the online format. The article describes how the conference was organized and held; it also gives information about the exhibition and prizes awarded for scientific achievements, and about several interesting reports that were not submitted for publication in the conference proceedings.
