Abstract

The European Union (EU) is in the process of revamping its star cast for a greener production. While, economic growth and competition rules have dominated the centre stage and been the lead actors so far, the director - European Commission (EC) is now trying to spotlight imminent issues such as ‘sustainability’, ‘environment protection’ and ‘climate change’ through its newest rising stars the ‘European green deal’, ‘European climate law’ and ‘Fit for 55’ package, albeit with some resistance from senior actors such as ‘competition rules’, more specifically the ‘state aid rules’. This paper covers the story of the rise, conflicts and probable conciliation between these actors on the grand EU stage.
