Abstract

For quite a long time, European Union (EU) academic lawyers were not interested in the energy law and policy aspects of the acquis communautaire. The late Professor Thomas Wälde was one of the pioneers who shaped the school of thought on EU energy law. This book is the fruit of a seed planted by Professor Walde. Professor Kim Talus has nurtured the initial ideas put forward by Walde nearly a decade ago and remaining true to their origin, with consistent academic rigour, come up with a book containing a contemporary, analytical and critical account of EU law and policy on energy. Talus casts his analytical net so widely that it may make the reader wonder whether such a task can be achieved in a single volume. However the book is a success. It provides not only a general overview of the regulatory framework of EU energy trade, but also a mix of helpful granular details—including historical context—and thought-provoking analysis of contentious issues.
