Abstract

Sodium aluminium fluorophosphate glasses doped with Eu 3+ have been studied with the fluorescence line narrowing technique. Eu 3+ is located in two types of sites. The more ionic is probably surrounded by fluorine ions with an O h symmetry. The more covalent corresponding to an oxyfluoride environment has a C 2v symmetry. A nonradiative energy transfer from ionic to covalent sites may be detected.
