Abstract

Many 3d transition-metal arsenides and phosphides crystallize with the (B31) MnP-type structure, “MoAs” and WP, whose single-crystal X-Ray structures have been redetermined, exhibit also the B31 type, with short zig-zag MoMo or WW chains along the b-direction; so “MoAs” and WP are particular compounds among the MnP-type structure arsenides and phosphides. The substitution of 3d-transition elements by molybdenum or wolfram in large orthorhombic (B31) solid solutions M xMo 1−xAs (M = V, Cr, Fe) and M xW 1−xP (M = Cr, Mn) is also studied.
