Abstract
A biometric study and a cytophotometric analysis of micronuclear DNA content of populations of Astome ciliates Almophrya mediovacuolata parasitizing the same host enable to distinguish 4 cell types: small cells (Pm) with 2 micronuclei (DNA content: 0.5 units), amicronucleate cells (Mm) having an intermediate size, large cells (Gm) with either 1 (Gml) or 2 (Gm2) micronuclei of which DNA contents are respectively 34.5 and 14.1 units. Macronuclear DNA content/micronuclear DNA content ratios in the three populations Pm, Gml and Gm2 are respectively 1100, 45 and 114. The distribution of macronuclear DNA between daughter cells is unequal.
